The newly-created Odisha University of Technology and Research (OUTR), formerly known as the College of Engineering and Technology (CET), in Bhubaneswar will be upgraded with an objective to develop it at par with eminent institutes like IIM, IIT and NIT.
A sum of Rs 1500 crore will be spent for upgradation of the institute in a period of three years as part of the ‘master plan’ which has been approved by Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday.
An estimated Rs 1,000 crore would be spent in the first year itself for the development of the requisite infrastructure and human resources, the CMO said in a release.
The master plan has been envisaged to upgrade the institute at par with IIT so that it can accommodate around 10,000 students. Currently, 4,600 students are studying at OUTR.
Patnaik today reviewed various aspects including infrastructure, academics and administration of OUTR at a high-level meeting. He stressed on quality of research and education and asked officials to work in a coordinated manner to make it leading institution in technical education and research.
As per plans, new courses will be opened for new age technology along with Centers of Excellence to promote human resource development. Incubation Center will also be developed in collaboration with various leading industries to encourage Startup culture among entrepreneurs.
