The Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), Burla, has postponed the MBBS exams in view of the rising cases of Covid-19 in Odisha.

The MBBS exam was scheduled to begin on Saturday (January 15).

VIMSAR Dean on Friday informed that the institute has taken the decision to defer the exam taking into account the recent increase in Covid-19 cases in the State and the safety of students.

Odisha today reported 10,273 Covid-19 cases , including 529 positives in Sambalpur. The active cases in the State have now gone up to 53,171.

Earlier in December, more than 30 students of the institute were detected positive for the virus following which the Sambalpur district administration had declared some hostels and staff quarters at VIMSAR as micro containment and buffer zones .

Moreover, VIMSAR Dean Prof. Jayashree Dora had then informed that two MBBS students out of the several detected positive for Covid-19, were found infected with the Delta variant of Sars-Cov-2.
