Panic gripped the Shailashree Vihar area under Chandrasekharpur police limits after a youth allegedly attacked a woman and her daughter with a knife on Monday.

As per preliminary reports, the youth, dressed up as a woman, entered the house of the victims before launching the murderous attack. The accused youth has been identified as Rupesh, who works with a private news channel.

Though the exact reason behind the attack is unclear, it is alleged that Rupesh is a neighbour of the victims. Rupesh has also reportedly sustained injuries in the attack.

Mystery deepened in the incident when Rupesh allegedly police that he was first attacked by three unidentified miscreants who threatened to kill him if he did not obey their instructions. Later, the bike borne miscreants took him to an isolated place and thrashed him inside a car.

“The miscreants forced me to dress up like a woman, gagged me with a piece of cloth before asking me to get inside my neighbour’s house. They also gave me a bag containing a gun, a knife, ropes and some other articles,” claimed Rupesh.

He further claimed, “Upon reaching the neighbour’s house, the landlady started attacking me. With no other option, I too retaliated. We did not have any enmity with our neighbours.”

Rupesh’s wife said, “Three youths attacked my husband and snatched away his motorcycle near our house. I do not know what happened thereafter. Only my husband can shed more lights over the incident.”

Bhubaneswar DCP, Umashankar Dash said, “Our senior officials are on the spot. Prima facie it appears that there was some brawl between the two families and two persons have been injured. Our investigation is on to ascertain the exact reason behind the incident.”
