A youth, Harihar Patra, allegedly attempted to rape an assistant professor's wife in Fakir Mohan University's residential quarters in Balasore, raising campus security concerns.

In a disturbing incident that has raised serious concerns over campus security, a youth allegedly attempted to rape the wife of an assistant professor of Fakir Mohan University inside the varsity’s residential quarters in Balasore.

According to police sources, the accused reportedly trespassed into the staff quarters and attempted to sexually assault the woman.

Following the complaint filed by the victim, Remuna police swiftly detained the accused, identified as Harihar Patra alias Shankar, a resident of Nilgiri area in Balasore district. He is currently in police custody and is being interrogated.

According to police sources, the accused will be forwarded to court today.

Police have confirmed that a case has been registered, and an investigation is underway to determine how the accused managed to gain access to the secure residential zone of the university. The motive behind the intrusion and the circumstances leading up to the incident are also being probed.

"What I have learnt is that an LPG gas cylinder was scheduled to be delivered to the Assistant Professor’s quarters. When someone knocked on the door, the Professor’s wife asked if he was the delivery boy, and the man replied yes. She opened the door and went inside to get the cash. Taking advantage of the situation, he entered the house and began to behave inappropriately. We have informed the police about the incident, and the youth has been detained," said Dr. Santosh Kumar Tripathi, Vice-Chancellor of the University.
