Vigilance traps Sub-Inspector while taking Rs 5000 bribe in Jajpur

Left with no option, the complainant reported the matter to the Vigilance officials and accordingly, a plan was made to trap the accused Sub-inspector. The entire bribe money has been recovered from the possession of the accused Sub-Inspector.

The officials of the Vigilance department on Saturday nabbed a Sub-Inspector of Odisha Police while taking a bribe of Rs 5,000 in the Jajpur district. The Sub-Inspector, identified as Abhay Nayak was posted at Sukinda.

Vigilance officials informed that the accused Sub-inspector had demanded the bribe from a complainant to help him in a family dispute matter.

The accused SI had earlier taken Rs 1000 and asked the complainant to pay Rs 4000 by threatening to entangle him in a criminal case otherwise.

Left with no option, the complainant reported the matter to the Vigilance officials and accordingly, a plan was made to trap the accused Sub-inspector. The entire bribe money has been recovered from the possession of the accused Sub-Inspector. 

In this connection, the Cuttack Vigilance has registered a case under section 7 of PC (Amendment) Act, 2018 and further investigation is underway, the Vigilance department said in a statement.
