The Vigilance sleuths on Wednesday arrested Maheswar Sethy, SDO, Meter Relay Testing (MRT), Electrical, Tata Power Northern Odisha Distribution Ltd. (TPNODL) in Keonjhar for accumulating disproportionate assets worth over Rs 2 crore.

Following the arrest, Sethy was produced before the Keonjhar special Vigilance judge's court which remanded him to judicial custody till October 5. 

Yesterday, five teams of the Balasore  Vigilance  Division comprising two DSPs, six inspectors and other staff carried out simultaneous searches at the properties linked to Sethy at five different places in  Keonjhar district.

Two double-storey buildings in  Keonjhar district, four plots including three plots in Keonjhar town and one plot at Ghatagaon, three two-wheelers, bank deposits over Rs 24.63 lakh, insurance deposits over Rs 24 lakh and other movable and immovable properties, all totalling over Rs 2.57 crore were unearthed during the house search.

After thorough search, inventory and further enquiry, Sethy was found in possession of assets disproportionate to the known sources of income to the tune of Rs 2,13,22,084 which constitutes 260% of his known sources of income.

As Sethy could not give any satisfactory answer regarding the sources of his income, a case was registered a Balasore Vigilance police station under Section  13(2)  r/w  13(1)(b)/12  Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act-2018 against him and his wife. 

Further investigation into the case is in progress, the Vigilance said.
