Skeletal remains of woman, daughter found buried in a village in Bhadrak
A 59-year-old woman and her daughter, who were missing from Panchagheria village under Nayakanidihi police limits in Bhadrak district, are now suspected to have been murdered and buried. The police have uncovered their remains from a site near the village.
The woman Jamuna Nayak (59) and her daughter Kousalya Nayak (35) were reported missing since September 27. Kousalya's husband Gurupad Gahana is suspected to have killed both the mother and the daughter and buried them in a canal near the village.
The matter came to the fore after villagers spotted street dogs feeding on the skeletal remains. After probe, police found human skull, teeth, bones and other decomposed body parts.
On being informed, Bhadrak Sadar SDPO rushed to the village and launched a probe into the incident. Later, under suspect, police have detained Gurupad Gahana and his brother Nirapad Gahana.
According to sources, Gurupad lived with his wife Kousalya and her mother Jamuna. Over reasons yet to be known, he is suspected to have killed the mother, daughter duo and buried them. Police suspect his brother Nirapad Gahana of helping him in burying the bodies.
Shockingly, the two had very cunningly lodged missing complaint after killing the woman-daughter, it was learnt.
Further probe into the incident is on, police said.
