‘Fake call centre’ operating from an apartment busted in Bhubaneswar
The Commissionerate Police on Wednesday busted a fake call centre purportedly used for committing cyber crime following a raid at Sundarpada area in Bhubaneswar.
Initial reports suggest that the raid was conducted based on the complaint filed by a victim staying abroad. Four youths, suspected to be from West Bengal, have been detained in this connection. Some SIM box-like devices have been seized from the apartment, sources said.
Bhubaneswar DCP Pinak Mishra said that a raid was conducted after getting information that some people are staying in a flat and using some electronic equipment.
“Several electronic gadgets were recovered and six persons have been detained who were running the fake call centre. From prima facie, it appears that the youths were operating a fake call centre. Malicious mail and links were being sent to various people and targeting them,” said Mishra.

Bhubaneswar DCP further informed that the accused used to run the fake call centre assuring people to resolve their grievances. After taking the credentials, the accused used to dupe money from the victims.
“This is a technical subject and the help of experts will be sought to ascertain more information before divulging more details. The accused will be brought on remand for interrogation,” he added.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Commissionerate Police in the month of August had busted a SIM Box racket in Bhubaneswar and arrested one Raju Mandal in this connection. Later, series of raids were conducted in different parts including Cuttack where other SIM Box setups were busted.
