RPF ASI arrested for ‘molesting’ girl under the guise of assistance in Bhubaneswar
A disturbing incident has emerged from Bhubaneswar, where an officer from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) has been arrested for alleged misconduct. The accused Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) has been identified as Niranjan Jena.
As per the allegations, Jena exploited his position of trust and took advantage of a young woman by inviting her to stay in a private room on the pretext of offering assistance. The incident took place some two days back, sources said.
The young woman, hailing from Jagatsinghpur, found herself stranded at Bhubaneswar station due to her hostel being closed. Seeking help, she approached the RPF office where she met ASI Jena.

It is alleged that after escorting her to a room, ASI Jena locked the doors and engaged in inappropriate behaviour. The victim, seeking escape from this ordeal, reached out to local authorities by making a distress call to the Police Control Room.
No comments could be obtained from the senior officials in connection with the alleged incident.
The police promptly responded, arriving at the scene to rescue the distressed girl. Based on her formal complaint with the Government Railway Police (GRP), the officials subsequently arrested the accused ASI.
Meanwhile, the incident has raised concerns about the safety and integrity of those enlisted to protect and serve as well as the safety measures for women in transit. The case is currently under investigation and has highlighted the pressing need for systemic reforms in the policing framework to prevent such incidents in the future.
