A youth was allegedly dragged out of his car and brutally beaten to death over an alleged road rage incident at Nuasahi village under Kaptipada Police Station limits in Mayurbhanj district on Saturday night.

The deceased has been identified as Rajit Pradhan, a resident of Balasore district and the in-charge of BJP's Balasore Yuva Morcha.

Based on a written complaint at the Kaptipada Police Station by his family members, three persons have been arrested from Khunta area in Mayurbhanj district on Saturday late night.

The incident took place at around 10 pm yesterday at Nuasahi village when Ranjit was reportedly visiting his in-laws house in the village.

"The incident took place some metres away from our house. Three youths on two motorcycles coming from the front side asked him way to cross. Though he (Ranjit) gave them way to pass through, they started hurling abuses at him. Later, they dragged him out of his car and attacked him," alleged Ranjit's father-in-law, Prafulla Patra.

"Some locals present at the spot informed us about the incident following which we immediately rushed to the spot. We found him lying on the ground. Though we rushed him to the Udala Hospital, he was declared brought dead by the doctors," added Prafulla.

"When we got the information from our neighbours, we rushed to the spot. Seeing us, the three attackers fled the spot on their motorcycles. He (Ranjit) had suffered critical injuries on his head and chest which led to the dead," alleged Ranjit's brother-in-law, Pruthviraj Patra.

Umakant Mohapatra, the President of BJP's Balasore unit said, "The incident is saddening. He was a dedicated party worker. As per the information we have, he was beaten to death by three youths over some road rage incident. The three youths have been arrested by the police," he added.

Further investigation into the incident is underway by the Kaptipada Police.
