As many as 4945 Non-Bailable Warrants (NBWs) were executed by the Odisha Police during a nine-day special drive which concluded recently.

A maximum of 850 persons have been arrested in Ganjam District including 57 in connection with warrants in sessions trial cases during the special drive which was carried out across the State between August 16 and 25, 2021.

As per Odisha Police officials, 645 wanted accused against who warrants had been issued were arrested in Balasore district, 547 wanted in Khordha district and 278 each have been rounded up in Kandhamal and Cuttack districts. The special drive against the criminals is also crucial to maintain peace and order during the upcoming Durga Puja festivities in the State.

Senior official said that several accused who were wanted and absconding since the past several years in various cases have been arrested during the special drive.

An accused, wanted in the sensational Baburam Panda murder case under Pipili Police Station in Puri district, was arrested August 19, 2021. The accused was absconding for the last 7 years.

Appreciating the special drive to nab absconding accused and execution of pending non-bailable warrants, Odisha’s Director General of Police, Abhay has issued appreciation letters to District SsP of Ganjam, Balasore, Khordha, Cuttack and Khandhamal.
