Odisha man's death sparks outrage, family alleges murder by friends
The mysterious death of a man has caused public unrest in the Kandhamal district of Odisha. Balaram Majhi, hailing from Kendupadar under the jurisdiction of Phulbani Town Police Station, died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar.
In response to his untimely death, his family members gathered outside the Kandhamal Superintendent of Police (SP)’s office, demanding a murder investigation and seeking compensation.
According to Balaram’s relatives, a friend had taken him from his home. Later, at around 2 to 3 PM, he was brought back in a precarious state by two youths who said they found him unresponsive by the roadside. The family rushed him to the district headquarters hospital (DHH) in Phulbani, where medical officials advised transferring him to a larger facility due to the severity of his condition.
Tragically, he passed away while undergoing treatment in Bhubaneswar. The queries surrounding who escorted Balaram from his home and the circumstances leading to his critical state remain unresolved, as investigations continue to uncover the details.
“Our son was at home. A friend called him on the pretext of going somewhere and took him. Both of them went together. At around 2-3 PM, our boy was mysteriously admitted to the hospital with serious head injuries. They claimed the injury was due to an accident,” claimed Subhadra Nayak, a relative of the deceased.
“However, the doctors have claimed that he was hit on his head. So, we want justice as he has two little children. Who will take care of them now? If there was any enmity, they could have just broken his limbs, but they killed him, leaving his family with no one to take care of now,” an inconsolable Subhadra added.
