Odisha Government has approved as many as 27 new posts including a post of SP and three DSPs in the Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha Police and sanctioned to set up a dedicated unit within STF to only target drug trafficking, informed DGP Abhay on Tuesday.

"Odisha Police has taken concerted action against drug trafficking especially in recent times and the STF has been leading in this fight. I am very happy to share that the government has approved our proposal for strengthening of STF of Odisha Police," said Abhay while addressing media persons.

Now STF will have two units headed by one SP each--one in narcotics unit and another in organised crime unit.

"We assure government and people of Odisha that STF will continue to excel and reach greater heights in combating drug trafficking and organised crime," he said.

Thanking Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for strengthening the STF and always guiding and supporting in the action against drug trafficking, the DGP said, it is at the direction of the Chief Minister that Odisha Police is giving the highest priority to the fight against drug trafficking.

It is worth mentioning that, since 2020 STF action against narcotic trafficking has resulted in seizure of more than 32 kg of brown sugar/heroin and more than 66 quintals of ganja and arrest of more than 100 drug peddlers.

In a recent case on June 3, the STF seized around 1 kg brown sugar and other incriminating materials from Jaleswar. As many as three drug peddlers were arrested in this connection.
