Crackdown on modified silencers in Bhubaneswar
Commissionerate Police in Bhubaneswar has launched a massive drive against rash driving, focusing particularly on motorcycles fitted with illegal and modified silencers. Reflecting a shift from conventional penalties, offenders are now being produced before the court.
This comprehensive crackdown targets offences including excessive speeding, reckless driving, lack of helmet use and other issues like environmental pollution.
As part of the operation, motorcycles fitted with illegal modifications to silencers have been confiscated. Bhubaneswar Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Pinak Mishra announced plans for upcoming raids on workshops and retailers involved in selling prohibited silencers, to intensify efforts in tackling the problem.

“The bikes creating noise pollution by using illegal and modified silencers are being taken to task. A special drive has started under Commissionerate Police jurisdiction following instructions of Chief Minister,” said Mishra.
The Bhubaneswar DCP further informed that the focus of the special drive is also checking traffic congestion at major junctions during peak hours which is mostly due to an increase in the number of vehicles. To ease the waiting period at junctions, special initiatives like deployment of more traffic officers and constables have reportedly started.
“On rash and negligent drivers, a special drive was launched and over 100 bike silencers were seized along with bikes on Monday. The violators can get their bikes released after necessary court orders. The Commissionerate Police had carried out a special drive to check drunken driving on Monday night. As per the provisions under the MV Act, several vehicles have been fined, and some vehicles have also been seized,” the DCP added.
