Most wanted ATM looter involved in more than 20 theft cases arrested in Bhubaneswar
In a major breakthrough, Khandagiri police on Friday arrested the most wanted ATM looter Sambhav Acharya, involved in over 20 theft cases in the state capital. Acting on a tip-off, Khandagiri police arrested Sambhav and his aide Jiten Bose.
The wanted robbers were held by police in an ATM fraud case, it was learnt. Earlier, Sambhav was arrested umpteen times by Commissionerate police in many other theft cases.
As per reports, a man identified as Bhikari Mahakuda was withdrawing money through his ATM in a bank outlet under Khandagiri police station when Sambhav and his associate tactfully changed his ATM.
By the time Mahakuda came to know about it and blocked his ATM, the accused had withdrawn Rs 40,000 from his account. Following the development, the victim lodged a case in this connection at Khandagiri police station.
Subsequently, Khandagiri police started an investigation into the incident and arrested both the accused. A bike and net cash worth Rs 40,000 have been seized from their possession as well.
As per police sources, the accused are involved in many ATM loot and theft cases in Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, and Nimapara. Sambhav has constructed huge buildings in many places with the theft money.
Commissionerate police may bring the arrested accused in remand as per the requirement in the investigation.
