The Infocity Police has filed a 400-page chargesheet in connection with the sensational murder of Manish Anurag, son of senior journalist Navin Das in October last year.
The chargesheet has been filed against three prime accused- Amrit Biswal, Dinesh Mohapatra and Mrutyunjay Mishra under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), kidnapping and other charges. The trio has been accused of murdering Manish on the pretext of inviting him to a party and later destroying evidences.
The Commissionerate Police have present evidences as well mentioned about 17 witnesses in the case in its chargesheet filed with the concerned court.
It is pertinent to mention here that Manish had visited a bar located in Patrapada area in Bhubaneswar along with his friends on October 9, 2021. The following day his body was found floating in a nearby pond.
The family members had alleged that Manish was abducted and the miscreants had made a ransom call. Later during the course of investigation, the police had arrested three accused—Amrit Biswal, Dinesh Mohapatra and Mrutyunjay Mishra on charges of killing Manish and destroying evidence.
A video clip had also surfaced on the internet that showed lavish parties being held in the bar of the South City Hotel where Manish held party on the fateful night.
Carrying out probe, Commissionerate Police had shunted out the Inspector-In-Charge of Tamando Police station, Pramod Pattanayak, on charges of dereliction of duty for letting the illegal dance bar remain operational in his jurisdictional area since September despite Covid restrictions.
Axe also fell on constable Prasanna Behera, President of Havildar & Constable Association Bhubaneswar, as he was placed under suspension on the basis of a probe by the Additional SP. It was alleged that Behera was illegally operating the bar.
Later, Behera was arrested along with the owner of the hotel and the bar manager. Following a probe by the Vigilance department, it was found that Behera and his family members owned disproportionate assets worth over Rs 6 crore. This was revealed following raids on the properties and individuals linked with the dismissed constable.
