Accused Father
The Nayagarh police on Thursday arrested a man on the charges of killing his two minor sons, aged 14 and 11, after they stood against his second marriage. As the two sons were against his second marriage, the man allegedly strangled them to death.
As per the allegations, the accused later hanged them to show it as a case of suicide, police said. Shockingly, the man was assisted in the heinous crime by the boys’ grandmother. The inhumane incident was reported from Dhanchangada village under Fatehgarh police limits in Nayagarh district on Monday.
During a press conference, the Nayagarh Superintendent of Police disclosed details of the case, which have shocked the local community.
According to reports, the accused father Prakash Mohanty’s wife passed away three years ago, leaving their two sons in his custody. However, the man wanted to remarry that led to disagreement in the family.
As per reports, the two boys did not want a step-mother while the accused was keen on getting married for the second time. Seeing his sons as the obstacle to his marriage, the man strangled them to death.
To mislead the police, the accused with the help of his parents (grandmother of the boys) hanged the boys and tried to show it as a case of suicide. Initially, they claimed that the minors killed themselves. However, Nayagarh police detained the accused under suspect who later confessed to the crime.
The boys’ bodies were found at their family home in Dhanchangada village on Monday. This tragic case has sparked intense discussions about family relationships and the extent of actions taken due to domestic conflicts.
After his first wife's death, the accused Prakash was trying to get married for the second time. However, the two sons, especially the elder son were against it. The main accused Prakash was helped by his mother (grandparents of the boys) to strangulate the two minors before they were hanged to show it as a case of suicide," informed Nayagarh SP S. Susree.
Likewise, the uncle of the boys alleged, "We suspect the involvement of six people in the killings. While two of them have been arrested, four others are still roaming free. So, we demand their arrest."
Meanwhile, the police investigation is underway to gather more information in connection with the case.
