Vigilance sleuths on Thursday arrested the Inspector In Charge (IIC) of Motu Police Station in Malkangiri district for possession of unaccounted cash of Rs 2.8 lakh. The accused has been identified as Sushanta Kumar Sahoo. 

Earlier last night, vigilance officials had intercepted Sahoo at Khordha while he was travelling with his family members from Motu to his native village Nakhara. They seized huge amount of cash and other land and insurance related documents from him but the police officer could not provide any satisfactory answer for possessing the papers and cash.

According to sources, on receipt of reliable information regarding collection of huge cash by Sahoo as illegal bribes from different sources, a team of Odisha vigilance had kept a close watch over his movement and activities.

Meanwhile, after the seizure of the illegal money from his possession, the probing officials also launched search operations at Sahoo’s residence. A sale deed of a plot at Nakhara, recently purchased in the name of his wife, worth Rs 24,90,000 and other incriminating materials  were recovered during the raid.

Vigilance has registered a case against Sahoo in this connection. He is being forwarded to the court of Special Judge, vigilance Bhubaneswar today.

“We are further investigating the case into all angles and preparing documents to lodge a case against him for possessing propery disapproportante to his known sources of income,” said Vigilance SP.


“Prima facie suggests that Sahoo possesses huge amount of property earned through illegal gratification from various sources. More details  can be divulged after further investigation into the case,” said the vigilance official.
