With the highest one-day shots of 4.5 lakh Covid-19 vaccine doses to the people of Odisha on Wednesday, as many as 2.87 crore people in the State have received at least one dose of vaccine till date, informed Director of Family Welfare and nodal officer of Covid vaccination in the State, Dr Bijay Panigrahi.

As per Health and Family Welfare department data, a total of 4,16,454 doses were administered to eligible vaccine beneficiaries on Monday. 

While 2.10 crore people have received the first dose of Covid vaccine, in the State, 77 lakh people have been completely vaccinated with two jabs, added Panigrahi.

With this, 67 per cent of the targeted population have received the first dose in the State while 72 per cent of the population whose vaccination date is due, have received the second dose.

The health department has also prepared a district-wise list of the people who have not received the vaccine and the concerned frontline workers, including ASHA and Anganwadi workers have been entrusted with the task of facilitating means to bring them to the session sites for inoculation, said Panigrahi.

The health department has targeted to vaccinate over 4 lakh people each day for which the inoculation drive is underway in 1,800 session sites in the State. We have adequate stock of vaccines, stated the Family Welfare Director.

On the other hand, the State government has started sending reminders through SMSes to people who are yet to receive the second dose.

Worth mentioning here, Odisha has set a target of vaccinating 18-year-old plus groups with at least a single dose of Covid-19 vaccine by December end.

Keeping this in view, the Health and Family Welfare Department had last week revised its inoculation target to four lakh in a day from 3.5 lakh after the increase in the Central quota of vaccines.

Odisha on Thursday reported 644 Covid-19 positive cases, including 72 positives from the age group between 0 and 18 years which took the positive tally to 10,22,594, informed the Information & Public Relations (I&PR) Department.

Similarly, the State today registered seven deaths due to Covid-19 which pushed the death toll to 8,157, as per the Health and Family Welfare department.
