Victim speaking to OTV
A man allegedly wooed a young woman promising marriage, established physical relationships with her and then went back on his promise of marriage.
The incident came to the fore after the Bahujan Youth Front in a press conference demanded action against the accused youth and the police for not showing the necessary alacrity.
As per reports, a young woman employed as a bar dancer in Cuttack made acquaintance with a disc jockey (DJ) at a bar in Bhubaneswar where they both were working.
On the promise of marriage, he had physical relationships with her on several occasions. Now whenever she is approaching him to know when they will tie the knot, he is allegedly refusing to marry her. His impudence doesn’t stop there. He has allegedly been blackmailing her with the threat of making the recorded video of their intimate moments viral. The young woman accused the DJ of recording their private moments without her consent
It is alleged that despite the severity of the complaint, there has been public criticism aimed at what some see as the Cuttack Police's inadequate response. Beyond taking a statement from the accused, the police have not taken significant action against the accused youth, the victim alleged.
“He had established physical relationships with me without my consent. Despite my refusal, he forced me into it by promising marriage. When I asked about our marriage, he started blackmailing me with the video of our intimate moments he had recorded without my knowledge. I want all the videos of our intimate moments should be deleted after his arrest,” said the victim.
On Thursday, the Bahujan Youth Front convened a press meet where they demanded a probe into the case and action against the accused and the police officers responsible for the delay.
“Banki Police Station IIC Siba Prasad Behera had initially refused to receive the complaint. She again visited on November 12 to register her complaint. However, the case was not registered till November 14. On November 14, a case was registered and the sub-inspector at the police station is probing the case which is a clear-cut violation of the Supreme Court’s direction. They didn’t take the case seriously till November 16,” alleged Anil Kumar Mallik, a social worker.
However, despite repeated attempts, no reactions were received from the Cuttack Rural Superintendent of Police.
