The Special Task Force (STF) of Crime Branch busted an inter-state gun trading racket and recovered as many as 10 guns from their possession near Khordha, Ranapur border on Saturday. Two persons, who used to supply illegal firearms in the State, were arrested.

The two dreaded criminals have been identified as Basanta Moharana of Ranapur and Krushna Chandra Srichandan of Khordha town.
According to reports, based on an intelligence input regarding illegal possession and sale of firearms, the STF team apprehended the criminals at Siko village under Jankia police station. As many as five pistols, five SBML guns, eight rounds of live ammunitions, one empty cartridge, a motorcycle and other incriminating materials were seized from their possession.

A case under the Arms Act has been registered at Jankia police station in this connection. Further investigation into the incident is underway.

According to police sources, the accused were involved in multiple criminal cases in various districts.

It is worth mentioning that drive against illegal possession and sale of arms and ammunitions have been intensified in the State since 2020. STF has alone seized as many as 47 firearms, 84 live ammunitions and arrested several criminals.

“Special officers of Crime Branch STF busted the racket and seized the guns and ammunitions from two criminals. From the primary investigation we came to know that both the criminals have past records of illegal possession and sale of arms and ammunitions. Further investigation into the incident is underway,” said Tejeswar Patel, SP of Crime Branch STF.
