The number of deaths due to Covid19 in Odisha crossed 5,000 mark as the State confirmed 66 new fatalities due to the virus on Sunday with the death toll reaching 5,058.

The maximum number of 23 fatalities was reported from Khordha district, eight from Ganjam, six each from Mayurbhanj and Sundargarh, five from Boudh, three each from Bargarh and Nayagarh, two each from Gajapati, Kendrapara and Puri and one each from Bhadrak, Bolangir, Rayagada, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur and Kandhamal.

“This list does not reflect deaths occurring on a particular day. It gives details of past deaths for which the death audit process has been duly completed and the cause of death has been identified as due to Covid-19,” the State Health department informed through its Twitter page.

The Covid positive tally in Odisha also rose to 9,54,326 after as many as 2,215 people tested positive for the virus on Sunday.

The active cases in the State reached 21,289 while 9,27,926 patients have recovered, including 2,400 on Saturday, from the disease so far.
Of the fresh Covid-19 cases reported from 30 districts, 1,272 are from quarantine centres, while the rest 943 are local contact cases, the data revealed by the I&PR Department stated.

Khordha district reported the highest 483 cases in the last 24 hours, followed by Cuttack (348), Balaore (150), Jagatsinghpur (126), Jajpur (124), Mayurbhanj (99), Kendrapara (95), Angul (89) and Bhadrak (78).

The State has so far tested over 1,49,88,531 samples for Covid-19, including 73, 027 in the last 24 hours.
