The Chairperson of State Commission for Women of Odisha, Minati Behera, on Tuesday inspected the crime scene where a young girl was allegedly raped and murdered in a village under Pandara Police limits in the district.

Behera was accompanied by a 4-member special team that visited the crime spot and also met the family members of the deceased to discuss about the incident.

"This is indeed a brutal incident. Police have arrested the accused involved in the case. The investigation is underway and we urge the police to take stringent action against the culprits," said Behera.

"I met the family members of the deceased and learned about their requirements. I will definitely present their demands to the government and ensure their fulfillment,” the OSCW chief said.

As per reports, the girl’s body was recovered from a pond with tied legs and hands, on October 23. During the preliminary investigation, it was discovered that she was raped and killed before her body was dumped into the pond. The girl reportedly went missing from the village a day earlier pulling her family members to launch a search operation.

They found her body with several cut marks while her hands were tied from behind. Clothes of the girl were also found lying near the body.
