Huge quantity of silver ornaments seized in Sambalpur
Huge quantities of silver ornaments were seized from the secret chambers of a car which was intercepted by the Excise officials on suspicion of smuggling ganja (dry cannabis) in Sambalpur on Tuesday. As per initial reports, the Excise department had launched an inspection drive after getting inputs regarding ganja (dry cannabis) smuggling. However, the officials stumbled upon huge quantities of silver ornaments which were hidden in secret chambers of a car.
On the Sambalpur-Jharsuguda Biju Expressway mostly vehicles from outside the state were being checked. A car bearing Maharashtra registration number was intercepted and huge quantities of silver ornaments were recovered.
Later, CT-GST enforcement officials were informed about the seizure of silver ornaments which are being weighed. It is suspected that the quantity of the silver ornaments will be over 1 quintal.
CT-GST Deputy Commissioner informed that on getting information, we reached the spot and seized the silver ornaments.
“So far we have detained three persons and they have produced some documents. Everything will be verified and appropriate action will be taken if there are some irregularities,” the official added.
