Jharsuguda: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today dedicated the Sambalpur-Rourkela Biju Expressway to the people of Odisha at a special inauguration ceremony held at Jharsuguda.

"It's a new chapter in the history of Odisha. The project which covers a length of 162 KM is one of the longest and the expressway will serve as a lifeline for Western Odisha," said Patnaik.

Patnaik further informed that the Expressway will connect eight districts of Western Odisha with Southern Odisha and the State government is investing nearly Rs 3,000 crores.

"Whenever there is talk of development in Odisha, one cannot forget the contributions of late chief minister Biju Patnaik who always wanted to convert Odisha into an economic powerhouse through industrial and telecommunication development," said Patnaik.

The Chief Minister further informed that work on a super specialty cardiac care hospital and two housing projects for workers in Jharsuguda is underway as part of infrastructural development in Western Odisha.

This section of Biju Expressway starts from Ainthapali Square in Sambalpur and extends till Rourkela. The Sambalpur-Rourkela section of Biju Expressway passes through three important western Odisha districts-Sambalpur, Jharsuguda and Sundargarh.
