A day after a girl’s body was found in a pond at a farmhouse in Bhubaneswar under mysterious circumstances, the Commissionerate Police on Saturday said that the diatom and viscera samples of the deceased have been sent to a forensic laboratory for tests to determine the exact cause of her death.
DCP Umashankar Dash said that the samples have been sent to the State Forensic Science Laboratory for the necessary tests. “We are waiting for the reports establishing the cause of death,” he said.
The body of the deceased, a resident of Raghunathpur, was fished out of a pond inside the farmhouse near Nandankanan area on Friday.

“Her body was recovered from the site by the police and a forensics team who have also inspected the site thoroughly for clues,” said the DCP.
CCTV footage collected from the spot near the site showed the girl entering the farmhouse at around 2 am on Friday.
According to sources, the girl had left her house in a distraught state as she was allegedly upset over failing to perform well in the JEE Main exams.
Though the police suspect that the girl had died by suicide, her bereaved father, who is a professor at an institute in Nayagarh district, refuted it. “There is a pond near our house and I find no reason for why my daughter would go all the way near Nandankanan to jump into a pond in a farmhouse," the deceaseds’ father added.
Meanwhile, the police have filed an unnatural death report and launched a probe to ascertain the actual cause of her death.
