The mutilated body of a former sarpanch was found from the roadside near Baurisukunda water factory under Bada Bazar police limits in Berhampur on Friday.

The deceased has been identified as Pradip Bisoyi, a three-time sarpanch of Antei village under Digapahandi block of Ganjam district.

Bisoyi, who was lodged in jail following his arrest in connection with a case, was recently released on parole.

As per reports, Bisoyi was going to his poultry farm at Antei village from his residence at Gate Bazar area in Berhampur when some miscreants reportedly attacked him with sharp weapons leading to his death on the spot.

Subsequently, some passersby spotted the body and informed the police. Bada Bazar Police rushed to the spot and started an investigation into the incident.

“We received a call at around 8.20 am and rushed to the spot. We have recovered a motorbike, sharp weapons and some documents from near the body. An investigation has been launched and we hope the culprits will be nabbed soon. The body will be sent for post-mortem,” said Berhampur Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO).
