Duplicate engine oil unit busted

The clandestine unit, which had been functioning by misusing the names and logos of reputed engine oil brands, was engaged in selling duplicate engine oil and accessories to unsuspecting customers. The raid was carried out following complaints from local residents and preliminary intelligence gathered by enforcement authorities.

During the inspection, several counterfeit packaging materials bearing fake brand labels were seized. Authorities suspect that the unit was part of a larger network involved in the distribution of substandard and illegal engine oil.

Officials from the Weights and Measures Department also verified violations in product labelling, pricing, and warranty claims, indicating a clear attempt to deceive consumers.

Further investigation is underway to identify the masterminds behind the operation and trace their supply chain. Police have assured stringent legal action against those involved in this fraudulent activity.

Sources said that discarded engine oil was being collected from various garages in Cuttack. After purifying and recycling, the adulterated engine oils were being repacked under various brands. This is a clear case of cheating customers, as there is every possibility that their vehicles would develop problems in proper functioning.

Jagatpur police station IIC informed that after getting information regarding the fake unit, a raid was conducted. First a person was detained and the unit was opened.

“We found grease, car and two-wheeler lubricants and brake oils at the unit. We found that waste lubricants were brought and filtered here to improve their quality. The final product was sold to small garages,” the officer said.
