The Excise Department sleuths on Tuesday arrested a person on charges of selling and supplying ganja and ganja cigarettes from his betel shop at Mancheswar in Bhubaneswar.

The arrested person has been identified as Sukant Das of Mancheswar area. 

According to a source, acting on intelligence inputs that a betel shop owner was selling ganja at his shop near Royal College in Mancheswar area, the Excise Department officials conducted a raid on the shop and seized eight kilograms of marijuana and a huge stash of ganja cigarettes.

During the raid, the sleuths also seized Rs 36,000 cash from the arrested trader’s possession.  The Excise Department’s further investigation revealed that he was not only selling ganja from his shop but also supplying to other traders. 

Meanwhile, the department has launched a probe to trace out who were supplying the contraband to him. 

“Excise Commissioner Nrushingha Bhol directed us to take steps as the ganja business is picking up in Bhubaneswar and its victims are college students. Acting on the direction, we employed our intelligence sources. Acting on a tip-off, we conducted a raid at a betel shop near the Royal College in the Mancheswar area. During the raid, we seized ganja stashed in a bag, ganja cigarettes, and Rs 36,000 cash. In this connection, we have arrested a person identified as Sukant Das,” said Excise Inspector, Bikash Nayak.
