In a barbaric act, a 10-year-old boy was allegedly hacked to death by a man in an inebriated state at a remote village in Kalahandi district.

The shocking incident took place at Bhataguda village under Thuamul Rampur police station in the district on Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as Anil Majhi, son of Ghasiram Majhi.

According to sources, Jaysingh Jani (42), the accused, attacked the minor boy with an axe when he was playing near his house. The accused, whom residents described as a habitual drunker, also attacked the deceased’s elder brother, Debanand with bow and arrow.

An elderly man, Tama Jani, also faced the wrath of the accused when he rushed to the rescue of Debanand.
On being informed, police officials from Thuamul Rampur police station rushed to the village and apprehended the accused. A forensic scientific team and dog squad from Bhawanipatna also arrived at the village on Thursday morning and launched an investigation.

While the exact circumstances leading to the brutal murder are yet to be ascertained, preliminary inquiry suggested that it was done out of anger. There were instances in the past when the accused picked up quarrels with others in an inebriated condition.
