One person was killed while another sustained critical injuries after two bike-borne miscreants opened fire at them inside a dhaba near Malda Dharamkanta (weighbridge) area under Koida police limits in Sundargarh district on Sunday evening.

The deceased has been identified as Ramesh Chatamba, owner of the roadside eatery. The injured was identified as Ram Purti.

According to sources, the two miscreants came to the hotel in a black Pulsar which did not have a registration plate on Sunday evening and spoke to Chatamba for a couple of minutes.

Before Chatamba could understand anything, the assailants opened four rounds of bullets at him and Purti, sources added.

While Chatamba succumbed on the spot, Purti sustained grievous bullet injuries in the attack. He has been shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

Though the exact reason behind the attack is not clear, it is believed that it might be the fallout of past enmity.

On being informed about the incident, Koida police rushed to the spot and started an investigation into the matter.
