Dacoity in Puri: Tent owner and his wife brutally attacked and looted off valuables

A shocking incident of robbery and assault allegedly took place in Kamadari village under Balanga police limits in Puri district. As per the allegations, unidentified miscreants forcefully entered the house of Kumar Chatoi, a tent owner, and brutally attacked him and his wife, Sailabala Chatoi, before looting cash and valuables late on Thursday night. 

The brazen act has left the community in shock and raised concerns about security in the region.

According to reports, two masked robbers broke into the house when Kumar and his wife were asleep. The criminals launched a lethal assault on the couple using iron rods, leaving them critically injured. They allegedly fled with gold ornaments and a cash amount of approximately one lakh rupees. The entire attack happened in a matter of minutes, leaving little time for the victims to react or call for help.

“Yesterday, miscreants entered our house and attacked my father and mother. They have looted all valuables and cash as well,” alleged Kumar’s son.

Sources revealed that at the time of the incident, Kumar’s house was undergoing construction. While his wife and granddaughter were sleeping in one room, his son and daughter-in-law were resting in another room. The robbers broke in by smashing the back door and attacked Kumar and his wife when they woke up, leaving them with severe head injuries. The attackers seemed to have carefully planned their moves, knowing the layout of the house and the family's sleeping timing.

Following the assault, the miscreants ransacked the house and looted the valuables. Fortunately, the couple’s granddaughter managed to escape harm by hiding under the bed. Her quick thinking saved her life, as she remained unnoticed during the entire ordeal. The family remains in deep trauma following the incident.

“I was sleeping when I heard a loud noise. When I saw things, I was frightened and hid under the bed after locking the room,” said the granddaughter.

Upon receiving the information, Balanga police arrived at the scene and began an investigation. They collected evidence, including fingerprints and possible CCTV footage from nearby areas, to trace the culprits. 

Preliminary investigations reportedly suggest that the attackers had prior knowledge about the financial status of the victims and targeted them specifically.

Meanwhile, the incident has sparked fear among the locals, raising concerns over security in the area. Many residents have demanded increased police patrolling and stricter security measures to prevent such attacks in the future. Police officials assured that a thorough probe is underway to apprehend the culprits at the earliest.
