The Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of Bidanasi police station in Cuttack, Yubaraj Swain, has been transferred following allegations of misconduct towards a female professor. The decision came after the professor lodged a formal complaint against him, prompting swift action from higher authorities.
Meanwhile, the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) of Commissionerate Police has initiated an investigation into the matter. It has been indicated that if the inquiry report substantiates the allegations, disciplinary action will be taken against Yubaraj Swain.
According to sources, the female professor had approached the police officer regarding some grievance. Instead of addressing her grievance, the officer allegedly misbehaved and verbally abused her over the phone. Distressed by the treatment, the professor later visited the police station to file a formal complaint. However, she reportedly faced further harassment and humiliation from the officer, leading her to escalate the matter to the Director General of Police (DGP).
Following her complaint, the DGP directed the Twin City Police Commissioner to initiate a probe into the allegations. Consequently, Yubaraj Swain was immediately transferred from Bidanasi police station.
This is not the first instance of controversy surrounding Swain. During his tenure in Bhubaneswar, he was previously accused of misbehaving with a young woman, which also led to public outrage. However, his response to the latest allegations could not be obtained. The investigating officers are yet to provide an official statement regarding the progress of the inquiry.
The incident has raised serious concerns about the behaviour of law enforcement officials and the treatment of women seeking justice. As the investigation unfolds, authorities have assured that strict action will be taken if the officer is found guilty.
