Couple selling plastic items beaten up by Odisha villagers on suspicion of being ‘child lifters’
A couple was reportedly beaten up by villagers on the suspicion of being child lifters in Odisha. The residents of Nimapur police under Pattamundai police limits in Kendrapara district caught a couple selling plastic items accusing them of being child lifters and beat them up.
The couple was locked inside a panchayat office and brutally beaten up by the villagers. Tension prevailed high in the village as police rushed to the spot and tried to rescue the couple.
The two have been accused of making attempts to kidnap a six-year-old child on the pretext of selling plastic items in the village. However, the couple refused to be ‘child lifters’.
They reportedly earn a livelihood by going from village to village and selling plastic items.
No comments could be obtained from the police in this connection.
