An angry husband allegedly crushed a mediator to death under tractor and as many as 10 others were injured in the process while they were trying to resolve a quarrel between him and his wife at Andhradera village under Binika police station in Subarnapur district on Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as D Kashi Biswanath of Paramanpur village under Atabira police station.

According to reports, the accused Alla Satyanarayan had left her second wife two years ago. D Kashi Biswanath, his uncle D Rambabu along with nine other villagers visited Satyanarayan’s house on July 14 to resolve the issue between the husband and wife. However, during the course of discussion by both the parties, Satyanarayan lost his temper and crushed them with a tractor.

Biswanath and Rambabu sustained severe injuries and were immediately admitted to Burla hospital. Biswanath succumbed to his injuries on Friday night. Rambabu’s condition is critical. Other villagers have also sustained minor injuries.

Binika police has registered a case and investigation is underway into the incident. The accused is on the run.

“We were trying to resolve the dispute between the couple. Satyanarayan lost his temper during the discussion and accused us of favouring his wife. Then he suddenly took the key of the tractor from his son and crushed us. While some of us managed to escape, others sustained severe injuries. My nephew succumbed to his injuries,” said Rambabu.
