A Sub-Inspector (SI) posted at Khandagiri Police Station under Bhubaneswar Urban Police District (UPD) was arrested on Thursday after he was caught red-handed by vigilance officials while accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000.

The SI has been identified as Sushant Swain.

Swain’s aide Chiranjeev Bal, who also works at the Khandagiri Police Station as a computer operator was also present at the spot and was arrested by the vigilance too.

As per reports, Swain was caught by the vigilance sleuths at Naka Gate in Bhubaneswar when he was accepting a bribe from a lawyer to prepare the final report of a case.

In August 2022, an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Odisha Police was also arrested on corruption charges. ASI Pushpalata Paikaray, posted at Balipatna police station in Khordha district, was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a complainant of a case registered in 2020 at the police station.

In July same year, Odisha Vigilance arrested a police inspector of Nabarangpur district while accepting Rs 20,000 bribe from one person to resolve a family dispute.
