The Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate Police arrested five cybercriminals for allegedly duping people of lakhs of rupees.
The five members of a cyber fraud gang were arrested from different locations in Tripura, Kochi, Assam and Andhra Pradesh.
Regarding their modus operandi, the police said that the accused would call people, informing them that the parcels booked in their names contain drugs and Mumbai Crime Branch has registered a case against them. Then, fearing arrest, the victims would transfer a huge amount to their accounts.

As per a report lodged at Bhubaneswar cyber police station in May, a victim was duped of Rs 36 lakhs.
Informing about the case, Police Commissioner Sanjeeb Panda said, “The victim got a call from FedEx informing him that a parcel was booked in his AADHAAR number. Then the call was transferred to the Mumbai Crime Branch. A person in uniform introduced himself as a cop through Skype. Out of fear, the victim transferred Rs 36 lakhs to an account.”
“A team under ACP Anjana Tudu of Bhubaneswar Cyber police station launched an investigation. So far we have arrested five persons. Their main boss is operating from outside the country. Our next step will be to nab him,” he added.
