Clash erupts during opera show in Ganjam

A fierce clash broke out between two groups during an opera show at Nuamahulia village under Bhanjanagar block in Ganjam district. As per initial reports, the opera show was organised on the occasion of 'Danda Nacha.'

Sources said trouble erupted after a youth passed some lewd comments when a record dance was being performed. Irate over this, the staff of the opera entered into a verbal duel with the youth and it soon snowballed into a major altercation.

Within no time, the entire stage turned into a battlefield with either groups holding sticks and attacking each other. It is alleged that that the stage and the vehicle of the opera group have also been damaged by the irate villagers.

The situation came under control only after Belaguntha Police reached the spot and pacified the fighting groups. One person is said to be injured in the clash. He has been admitted to hospital and his condition is said to be critical.
