The incident took place on Saturday at the hospital’s maternity ward, where a woman, under suspicious circumstances, was seen trying to steal two newborn babies.
However, suspicious behaviour of the woman prompted the attendants to detain her when she tried to flee the scene after being confronted. The woman was later handed over to the police.
Following the incident, the Baripada Town Police took the woman into custody for further investigation. Preliminary investigations suggest that she might be part of a larger child-trafficking network. Authorities are now probing whether she acted alone or had accomplices involved in the crime.
The police are also reviewing CCTV footage from the hospital premises to gather more evidence. Officials have assured that a thorough investigation is underway to prevent such incidents in the future and ensure the safety of newborns at the medical facility.
The incident has raised serious concerns about the hospital security and the safety of newborns. Following the event, the hospital administration has been urged to enhance security measures, including stricter visitor screening and increased surveillance, to prevent similar occurrences.
Authorities have also advised parents to remain cautious and report any suspicious activity to the hospital staff immediately.
