The injured accused Deepak Kumar being taken to a hospital
A notorious criminal from Bihar sustained bullet injuries following a police encounter while he was attempting to loot an ATM in the Badagada area on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar.
Sources reported that an exchange of fire took place between police personnel and the armed robber during an attempted ATM heist in the locality. In the process, authorities used controlled fire and shot the accused in the leg when he attempted to flee under the cover of gunfire.
Police nabbed the accused and identified him to be Deepak Kumar from Bihar, who is reportedly part of an interstate ATM robbery gang. Authorities took him to Capital Hospital for medical care but later shifted him to AIIMS Bhubaneswar after his condition worsened.

Reports also added that several cases of ATM robbery and other offences have been registered against Deepak Kumar in different police stations. Further, a probe is on to track down other members of the gang and ascertain the source of the weapons and modus operandi of the group.
News of this encounter comes amid a rapid spurt in ATM robbery cases in the state capital. In a major crackdown, the Twin City Commissionerate Police stated on Saturday that it had arrested six persons in connection with an ATM heist from January.

In that matter, CCTV footage revealed four masked men smashing out a cash-loaded ATM machine and then laying it onto a stolen auto-rickshaw before fleeing. The accused had then cut open the ATM’s money chamber and looted the cash before dumping the machine in the Gangua Canal.
