Crime continues unabated during the Covid-19 induced lockdown in the State Capital. In yet another instance of daylight crime, a miscreant attacked a woman with knife during a loot bid at Nayapalli VIP Colony of Bhubaneswar on Monday.

The entire incident was captured in a CCTV camera which was installed in the nearby area. In the footage, the miscreant can be seen waylaying the woman and threatening her in a lonely stretch. Then he attacked the woman’s neck with a knife before fleeing the spot. A loot bid is suspected to be the motive behind the attack.

According to sources, the miscreant left the woman when she screamed for help. The injured woman has been admitted to the nearby hospital.

Nayapalli police registered a case into the incident. The cops also examined the CCTV footage and further investigation is underway.
According to police sources, the unprecedented situation due to Covid-19 has led to the increase in crimes in the Capital City.

“The reason for the sudden spurt in burglary, theft and snatching cases could be attributed to the loss of livelihood due to the lockdown. Most of the accused are habitual offenders. However, they earn their livelihood from different sources. Closure of their income sources has forced them to commit crimes so frequently,” said a police official.
