  • Accused Harish Chandra Das stole the cash from multiple ATMs by using secret code while loading currency

A B.Tech graduate employed with a private company that provides cash loading services to banks was arrested on Saturday for allegedly stealing cash to the tune of Rs 34 lakh from ATMs.

The accused, Harish Chandra Das, was arrested by Rourkela Sector- 7 police and forwarded to court. 

According to police, the accused had stolen the cash from multiple ATMs by using secret code while loading currency during several attempts over a period of one year.

The fraud came to light after an audit was conducted by the respective banks recently. 

Separate FIRs have been registered at Rourkela Sector 9, Sector 7, Chhend and Railway police stations in connection with the fraud. 

“The accused Harish Chandra Das is a B.Tech degree holder. He stole Rs 34 lakh on different occasions in the last one year while loading cash in ATM machines. It came to light after an audit was conducted,” said Rourkela SP Mukesh Bhamu.

“Separate cases have been registered and the accused has been arrested and forwarded to court. If needed, we will take him on remand for further questioning,” the SP added.
