Brown Sugar Worth Over Rs 2 Cr Seized In Odisha’s Balasore, 1 Held

The Special Task Force (STF) of the Odisha Crime Branch seized a huge Quantity of brown sugar following a raid at Basta in Balasore district on Friday.

As per official sources, the STF team from Bhubaneswar seized over 2 kilograms of the contraband and arrested one person in this connection.

The street value of the seized narcotics drugs is said to be worth Rs 2 crore. Odisha DGP, Abhay said the STF seized the brown sugar consignment on the basis of cultivated intelligence.

A case under Section 21(c), 29 of the NDPS Act, 1985 has been registered and further investigation is underway.

The senior Odisha Police official also lauded the ongoing efforts of the STF in carrying out successful operations against illegal narcotics trade in the State.

According to Abhay, the STF has seized more than 34 kg of brown sugar and 66 quintals (6600 kg) of Ganja (dry cannabis) during the special drive which has been on since 2020.

Over 100 drug traffickers/ peddlers have also been rounded up in several cases so far by the STF, Abhay said.
