The Odisha Capital city recorded cyber financial fraud to the tune of Rs 60 lakh in the month of September, according to a statement issued by the police on Friday.

According to the monthly summary of cyber crime help desk of Bhubaneswar urban police district (UPD), financial fraud of Rs 60,48,453 was recorded in September, 2021. 

Of the total fraud, the cyber police managed to refund and block a total amount of Rs 17,45,614. 

Sharing details about the types of cyber fraud, the statement said, “a total of 136 Unified Payments Interface (UPI) frauds were detected in Bhubaneswar during the month of September. Similarly, the city recorded 30 credit and debit card frauds. Moreover, 65 fraud calls were received during the month.”

The cyber crime help desk received a total of 485 calls last month. While 231 calls emanated from Bhubaneswar alone, the remaining 254 calls were from other parts of the State.

Similarly, 13 cases under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act were registered in the month of September in Bhubaneswar (UPD) and 20 persons arrested in connection with the seizures. 

A total of 307 grams 40 mg brown sugar, 140 Kg 500 grams of ganja (dry cannabis) and Rs 3,64,150 in cash were seized from peddlers and syndicates during the month.
