Police on Thursday arrested a man who allegedly killed his wife and spent three days with her body at Tarini Nagar in the Maitri Vihar area of Bhubaneswar.

As per reports, the couple and their two children were living at Tarini Nagar. The couple was working as daily labourers. They would go out in the morning and return in the evening. They would often quarrel over alcohol.

As per sources, like any other day, they returned from work on Monday and had a quarrel. The scene turned ugly when the man lost his cool, picked up a wooden plank and started beating his wife till she collapsed to the ground, added sources.

When he realised what he had done, he sent his two children to a neighbour’s house and spent three days with her wife’s body.

Not seeing the couple going out for work, the neighbours grew suspicious. They started enquiring about the reason. On Sunday, they could smell a stench emanating from the house and asked him the reason.

With no option left, he confessed before the neighbours. Later, on being informed, a team from Maitri Vihar Police Station along with a scientific team reached the spot and arrested him. They seized the body for post-mortem.

The police have launched a detailed probe to ascertain the reason leading to the mishap. The children are now under the care of their neighbours.
