In a shocking incident, a scrap collector was allegedly bludgeoned to death by two persons in Sambalpur just after looting his cell phone. After killing the scrap collector, the accused allegedly buried the body which was exhumed by police on Wednesday.

As per reports, the incident had taken place in the Rengali area on March 7. But the matter came to the fore on Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as Mohammed Firoz. 

Some youths had called Firoz over the phone to Katarbaga forest on the pretext of selling some scrap material. As soon as the scrap collector reached the place, two youths allegedly started beating him with sticks. While Firoz was trying to run away, he fell into a ditch.

As per reports, the accused hit Firoz on his head with a stone and ran away with his cell phone.

A relative of the deceased said, “During the investigation, police checked the call details of Firoz’s cell phone. The deceased had no enmity with anyone. The culprits called him to this place to sell iron scraps, but snatched away the phone before killing him.”

The police started an investigation into the matter and examined the call details record of the deceased. Police recovered the body for post-mortem while a case has been registered against the two accused.

Speaking to the media, Sambalpur SDPO Tofan Bag said, “The two took Firoz inside the forest to sell their iron scraps. They snatched his mobile and dumped its SIM card. His bike was hidden later. We have disinterred the body in the presence of the magistrate.”
