Police seized 3.75 quintals of ganja from a truck concealed under steel rods at Kunja Square in Boudh district’s Kantamal area on Sunday. Two persons identified as the residents of Madhya Pradesh were arrested for their alleged involvement.
From time to time, ganja smugglers have been using innovative ways to hoodwink police. Cases of ganja being smuggled in ambulances and vehicles with ‘PRESS’ stickers have also been reported. Last Saturday, 84 kilograms of ganja were seized from a car that had BJD stickers on it.
Bijay Gawle and Binod Manjhi, both natives of Madhya Pradesh, were trying to smuggle ganja worth Rs 37 lakh in a truck loaded with steel rods but they ran out of luck.

As per reports, Sonepur Police was tipped off that ganja was being smuggled in a steel rod-laden truck.
Taking the tip-off seriously, a team of Sonepur Police laid a trap at Kunja Square. When the said truck was passing through the spot, the cops jumped out of the hideout and waylaid the vehicle. During thorough checking, they found ganja being concealed under the steel rods.
They seized the ganja weighing 3.75 quintals along with the steel rods weighing 24.960 tons.
The occupants of the truck, Bijay and Binod, were arrested.
“We were tipped off that ganja was being smuggled in a truck to Madhya Pradesh. We detained the truck at Kunja Square and seized 3.75 quintals of ganja from it. The driver of the truck Bijay Gawle and helper Binod Manjhi confessed to smuggling ganja for sale in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh,” informed Yashpratap Shrimal, SP, Sonepur.
