17-YO youth attacked with cricket bat dies at hospital in Bhubaneswar

A 17-year-old youth, who suffered critical injuries after being attacked with a cricket bat some 86 days back, died while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Bhubaneswar on Monday. The deceased has been identified as Prakash Kumar Sahu, a resident of Baramunda area. Today, the family members of the deceased staged a demonstration at Khandigiri square.

As per initial reports, Sahu was allegedly attacked by several youths. Since then he has been undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the city. On July 10, Khandagiri police had arrested two youths while the other accused managed to get bail from Orissa High Court.

Responding to the allegations, senior police officials said that the case has now turned into a murder case and appropriate legal action will be taken against the accused.

“We had arrested two accused while others managed to seek bail. As the case has now turned into a murder case, we will move the court to cancel the bail. Once it is done, appropriate legal action will be taken against the accused. The dying declaration was taken after the investigating officer made a requisition to the treating doctor,” said ACP Zone 3, Tapas Pradhan.
