There are chances of Covid-19 infection among people even after taking both doses of vaccines, said a top health official in Odisha on Saturday.
“Vaccine helps develop immunity in our body, but that does not mean that we will not contract Covid-19 after taking the vaccine shots. There are chances of getting infected by the virus,” said Director of State Health Services Bijay Mohapatra.
“The vaccines are 70 to 90 per cent effective. Chances of severity is low in case one finishes both doses of vaccination,” Mohapatra added while urging all to follow Covid appropriate behaviour.

Speaking about third wave of Covid-19 pandemic, he said the Odisha government is prepared for any such situation.
“There are different views regarding the third wave of Covid-19. Some theories say children will be mostly affected in the third wave while some others say it will hit adolescents. There are also studies that it will affect adults. Instead of focusing on these theories, the government is boosting infrastructures. Besides, training is being imparted to doctors and healthcare workers in special paediatric care,” he said.
Meanwhile, the technical committee formed by the Odisha government comprising experts to study reports of Coronavirus infections amongst people in the State who have completed the full schedule of Covid-19 vaccination will hold its first meeting today, informed Ajaya Kumar Parida, Director of Institute of Life Sciences (ILS), Bhubaneswar and head of the 8-member committee.
The committee will also examine how many people have so far died due to Covid-19 after completion of full schedule of vaccination in Odisha. From the existing available data, it is ascertained that the chances of hospitalisation after vaccination decreases.
