Several benevolent individuals and few organisations across the State have come forward with helping hands to support the poor family of a Covid victim from the district. The family was struggling to survive following the death of its only earning member.
The exclusive report about the ordeal of the hapless family was first aired on OTV following which helping hands from different quarters were extended within a very short period of time.
According to reports, Bharat Jena from Gadadharpur village under Tihidi block succumbed to the pandemic. Following Bharat’s death, his poor family became completely helpless as he was the only earning member in the family. His wife Sunita Jena struggled to arrange even two square meals for her two little children.

After knowing about their ordeal, a family friend-- Jyotirmaya Pandava and a local social organisation—Jibanjyoti stepped in to their rescue. With their help, a report about the ordeal of the family was aired on OTV and an appeal was made to help and support the family.
Several individuals and organisations chipped in with monetary help following the broadcast and a sum of around Rs 5 lakh was collected within no time. The financial assistance was provided to Bharat’s wife Sunita on Friday.
“After the passing away of my husband, I was totally helpless. I express my gratitude to OTV for airing our story after which several individuals and institutions came forward with the monetary assistance. The initiative by them has given me and my family a new hope of life,” said Sunita.
